The Chinook is a rare breed developed by Arthur Treadwell Walden of New Hampshire.
In the early 1900’s, Walden dreamed of breeding the ideal sled dog ~ hardy, friendly, and devoted ~ and crossed a mastiff type dog with a Greenland Husky to create the first Chinook.
He chose the name “Chinook” after the lead sled dog in his team (and the root of the breed): the word means “warm wind” in Inuit.
Weighing between 50 and 90 pounds, with a tawny coat and slightly darker ears and muzzle, Chinooks bear a slight resemblance to Labrador Retrievers.
The Chinooks are working dogs. They are smart and patient. The Chinook breed achieved full recognition and was accepted by the American Kennel Club on January 1, 2013.

"Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more. When you take a dog into your life, you need to understand the commitment that dog ownership entails." ~ AKC
Adopted Pets are the best pets you can have. Most adoptable pets come from loving homes that simply cannot care for them anymore. Or they are strays who’ve been on their own without the loving care they deserve. ― Josh Duhamel
