The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest dog breed in the world. They are gentle, noble, sensitive, easygoing, calm, intelligent, quiet, affectionate, and even-tempered. They make great family pets.
The breed is extremely old. It’s been suggested that they came to Ireland over 5,000 years ago. Irish Wolfhounds were once fierce on the battlefield, but in recent centuries, ferocity subsided, leaving behind a big teddy-bear of a dog.
According to the AKC … By the year 391 AD, Irish Wolfhounds were known in Rome, when the first authentic mention of it was weitten by The Roman Consul Quintus Aurelius, who received seven of them as a gift which “all Rome viewed with “wonder.”
