Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American author and abolitionist who became best known for her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
She became a cat owner after a grey-blue stray showed up on her doorstep. She named him Calvin after her husband, Calvin E. Stowe. Calvin, the cat, loved to to perch on her shoulders as she wrote.
