First Therapy Dog “Smoky”

The First Therapy Dog was a Yorkie named Smoky.

Army Air Force veteran Bill Wynne (pictured below) bought a scraggly little puppy from another soldier in Nadzab, New Guinea, in 1943. Little did he know that the little Yorkie would become an internationally recognized war dog more than 50 years later.
